Most casino managers haven't a clue as to how they should allocate their dealers and tables to games at various levels. As a result, they open and close tables according to criteria that can be shown mathematically are wrong. As an example, they send a $10 per hour blackjack dealer home, and lose $100 an hour (theoretical) by crowding the existing tables and reducing the overall decision rate. Or they refuse to give a $100 minimum player a "private game" and instead keep two $50 tables half-full, when the private $100 game and a full $50 table would be worth more than the two $50 games and a $100 player who goes next door. These are the kinds of analyses we do, and the recommendations we make to optimize "hold."
