2024 World Series of Poker shatters multiple records

(PRESS RELEASE) -- After eight historic weeks of nonstop play, the 55th annual World Series of Poker officially concluded at the Paris Las Vegas and Horseshoe Las Vegas on July 18, punctuated by Jonathan Tamayo winning the Main Event. The 2024 series was one for the record books, establishing several new WSOP and live tournament poker records. The action-packed summer on the Las Vegas Strip included appearances from Vegas Golden Knights’ Conn Smythe Trophy winner Jonathan Marchessault, WSOP Founding Father Jack Binion, Neymar Jr., and many more.

This year’s Main Event champion, hailing from Humble, Texas, topped the largest WSOP Main Event field ever (10,112) to take home the first-place prize of $10 million generated from the largest prize pool for a single event in live tournament poker history ($94,041,600).

“It’s special to see the passion for poker continue to deliver records on an annual basis,” said WSOP Senior Vice President and Executive Director, Ty Stewart. “The laundry list of records that were shattered this summer at the WSOP continue to show that the poker renaissance is upon us.”

2024 WSOP By the Numbers

- The total field for the 2024 WSOP was 229,553 entries, most all-time.
- The 2024 Main Event attracted a total of 10,112 players, shattering the previous record of 10,043 set in 2023.
- The Main Event prize pool was the largest in both series and poker history, totaling $94,041,600, which topped the $93,339,900 pool set in 2023.

• The 2024 WSOP Main Event set a single-day entrants record on 6 July, when 5,014 entrants joined the field as part of flight 1D to help generate the largest prize pool in live tournament poker history.

- Many individual events were record-setting as well. The prize pool of $11,186,000 for Event #73: High Roller Pot-Limit Omaha (8-Handed) became the largest PLO prize pool in live tournament poker history, and the field of 4,280 entrants for Event #86: Mystery Bounty Pot-Limit Omaha became the largest PLO field in live tournament poker history.
- For buy-ins, 10,939 entries in Event #54: Millionaire Maker No-Limit Hold’em set a record for the largest $1.5k buy-in field in live tournament poker history, and the 3,177 entries for Event #89: Mid-Stakes Championship No-Limit Hold’em now marks the largest ever $3k buy-in field ever.
- A total of 34,717 places were paid at the 2024 WSOP, topping last year’s total of 32,282 for the record for total payouts in series history.
- This year’s WSOP also set the record for the number of events exceeding $2+ million prize pools (54) and $10+ million prize pools (7).

Although this year’s tournament is over, the excitement continues with the 2024-25 WSOP-Circuit (WSOP-C) already underway, and the return of WSOP Paradise this winter in the Bahamas from Dec. 6 to 19. Additionally, WSOP Europe (WSOP-E) runs from Sept. 18 to Oct. 9, with the WSOP-E Main Event beginning on Oct. 4
