Casino City's Friday Five: Massive slot jackpots and WSOP schedule release edition

25 February 2022

It’s always a great feeling walking out of a casino session with more money than you bought in for. It’s a rare occasion to go into a session and have a six-figure jackpot land in your hands. This happened for several Las Vegas players recently. Before we get into those massive winning details, we have renderings for a new Missouri property, sports betting approved for Potawatomi casinos and the World Series of Poker’s daily schedule announced for 2022.

Let’s begin with a new property:

5. Osage Casinos releases renderings for new Missouri property
Officials with Osage Casinos released renderings and details of a planned new property in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. The new property is part of a new entertainment district in Missouri announced last fall by the Osage Nation. The project is expected to be completed in multiple phases with an estimated $60 million investment in the region.

The planned property includes a casino, hotel, meeting space and event center, among other amenities. Phase 1 of the process includes construction of a casino, sports bar, restaurant and meeting space. Additionally, it also includes a hotel, which will have general hotel rooms, suites, a fitness and exercise facility, a pool and hot tub, and a pool bar. Phase 1 construction is expected to start upon approval from the Department of Interior.

Future amenities include more casino space, additional food and beverage options, meeting space and an event center.

4. Fremont Casino guest hits $275,000 jackpot
Tuesday turned out to be a lucky day for a resident from Hawaii who hit a more than $275,000 progressive jackpot playing IGT’s Wheel of Fortune slots at Boyd Gaming’s Fremont Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

The winner, who requested to remain anonymous, was playing on a Wheel of Fortune Gold Spin Deluxe Triple Stars slot. The player made a $1.25 bet on a Wheel of Fortune Bonus Spin and won the progressive jackpot totaling $275,717.

3. Two major jackpot wins at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas
On 20 February, two lucky Caesars Rewards members hit a Mega Progressive Jackpot on Ultimate Texas Hold’em for $779,149 and $117,688 at Caesars Palace.

Kyle Johnson from Utah was staying at The Cromwell and walked over to Caesars Palace in the evening to gamble with some friends. After playing at the same table for 30 minutes, he hit the jackpot for $779,148. Johnson, who has played the game hundreds of times, treated his friends to dinner and then plans to pay off his house with his earnings.

Earlier in the afternoon, Phillip Mitchell of Peabody, Massachusetts also hit a jackpot for $117,688 after playing at the same table for 30 minutes. Mitchell, who was staying at Caesars Palace to celebrate his recent birthday, said he has played this game a lot and was shocked to win the jackpot. He plans to use some of his earnings to help pay for the weddings of his two daughters this summer.

2. Wisconsin governor approves sports betting at Potawatomi casinos
Earlier this week, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers signed a historic compact amendment allowing casinos and affiliate locations operated by the Forest County Potawatomi to offer sports betting.

The signed amendment was sent to the U.S. Department of Interior where it will undergo a 45-day review.

“I am glad for the good work of Chairman Daniels, the Forest County Potawatomi, and the folks at the Department of Administration to get this done so folks can enjoy sports and other event wagering in our state while benefiting the Tribe’s economic growth,” said Gov. Evers. “I look forward to continuing our partnership together to find new opportunities that support and bolster the Tribe’s success and our state’s success for years to come.”

The Forest County Potawatomi plans to open a sportsbook venue at the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in Milwaukee by the end of 2022.

1. World Series of Poker announces 2022 daily schedule
Following a successful 17-year run at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, the WSOP moves to the Las Vegas Strip for the very first time at Bally's - Las Vegas, the future Horseshoe, and Paris Las Vegas.

Doors open on Tuesday, 31 May with exciting action through the event's conclusion on Wednesday, 20 July. The WSOP's new home will include all convention space at both Paris Las Vegas and Bally's. This will create the largest tournament capacity in the event's history with over 200,000 square feet and 600 poker tables.

WSOP will again feature the much-anticipated $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em World Championship, also known as the "Main Event", which in 2021 hosted 6,650 entrants from around the world despite taking place during a pandemic. This year's Main Event is back to its traditional time frame around the 4 July holiday, beginning on Sunday, 3 July. The legendary deep-stack tournament will continue play through the Final Table on Friday, 15 July and Saturday, 16 July.

This year's tournament will also feature a $5,000,000 guaranteed prize pool WSOP opening weekend dubbed "The Housewarming", featuring a $500 buy-in.
