Expo Shows Gambling's Mainstream Status

LAS VEGAS – As reported by the Hartford Courant: "From gas station scratch tickets to the gaudy glitter along The Strip, gambling is as all-American as Larry King, Indiana Jones and Pamela Anderson.

"…Nowhere is it easier to witness this than at the annual Global Gaming Expo, where gambling is lauded and the Beverly Hillbillies still pack them in. Here, retread celebrities pitch the latest slot machine games - Anderson and Indiana Jones are a couple of new slots this year - and talkmeister King holds forth, town meeting style, interviewing industry CEOs as if they were heads of state.

"What's happened is 'a complete transformation of our industry' said Robert DeSalvio, executive vice president of marketing for Foxwoods, an American Indian casino in Mashantucket, Conn. 'It has become very mainstream.'…"
