Poker Champion Competes on World Poker Tour

LAS VEGAS – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Card Player magazine, 'The Poker Authority', today announced that owner/publisher Barry Shulman, one of the elite players in the world of poker, will appear on The Travel Channel's hit TV series, World Poker Tour, Wednesday, May 12th at 9:00 PM Eastern/Pacific time. Shulman will compete on the show with five other world-class players in the final round of the UltimateBet Ultimate Poker Classic for the winner's share of a prize pool totaling nearly $1,700,000.

The Ultimate Poker Classic, played at the famous Playa Linda Beach Resort, has attracted 436 competitors from around the world. Buy-in for the event was $4,000, with the winner scheduled to pocket roughly $500,000 in winnings.

Barry Shulman is known to many poker fans as the driving voice of Card Player Magazine. Born in Seattle, Washington, Shulman is both a real estate developer and an international poker authority. He also is the father of pro poker player Jeff Shulman, who gave his father 3:1 odds on a $10,000 bet that he would beat his dad to a World Poker Tour final table. Obviously, the "old man" wins.

World Poker Tour, now in its second season, is The Travel Channel's highest rated show and one of its top two shows ever. Three to five million people tune in each week to see the masters of the game compete for million- dollar prize pools. Glamorous locales, famous casinos, exquisite game strategy, and a revolutionary "WPT cam" that shows the hole card to the home audience, combine to create a spell-binding and totally fascinating viewing experience.

Fourteen tournaments make up the total World Poker Tour season, with an estimated pool for year two exceeding $30 million. The May 12th episode repeats at 12:00 AM Eastern and Saturday, May 15th at 6:00 PM Eastern on The Travel Channel.
