Record-breaking WSOP Main Event

8 July 2023

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The World Series of Poker’s historic summer hit another exciting milestone. With final registration closed, the WSOP Main Event has shattered its all-time attendance record officially welcoming 10,043 entrants making the 54th annual edition the richest tournament in live poker history.

With the entrants that stood for 17 years now broken, the WSOP sets its sights on a Final Table to be remembered and a huge first-place prize to be awarded to the eventual undisputed world champion of poker. This year’s Final Table of nine players will enjoy historic payouts, including $12.1 million for first place, $6.5 million for runner-up, and an impressive $900,000 for the first player sent home.

“This is an all-time summer for the WSOP,” said WSOP Senior Vice President and Executive Director Ty Stewart. “Week after week we saw record fields, so it’s only fitting that we break the biggest record of all. 10,000 players is historic for the industry and this year’s champion will be remembered as the one to conquer the richest event in poker history, well at least until 2024.”

In 2006, the WSOP only paid out 10 percent of its then-record-breaking Main Event field. In 2023, prize money will be awarded to 15 percent of total entrants.

The full payout breakdown for the Final Table is as follows:

1st: $12,100,000
2nd: $6,500,000
3rd: $4,000,000
4th: $3,000,000

6th: $1,850,000
7th: $1,425,000
8th: $1,125,000

Additional milestone payouts include:

18th: $345,000
44th: $229,000
80th: $109,400

413th: $40,000
665th: $30,000
1,004th: $20,000
Minimum cash: $15,000

The 2023 WSOP Main Event champion will also take home the 2023 Main Event gold bracelet, considered to be the richest trophy in all of sports. This year’s bracelet was officially unveiled by Chef and Restaurateur Guy Fieri on July 7 and is custom-made by Jostens featuring approximately 500 grams of 10-karat yellow gold with 2,352 various precious gemstones, including 42 carats of round genuine diamonds, 425 black and red stones to accentuate the suits and a removable golden poker chip that sits in the center of the bracelet. This year’s bracelet also features a special horseshoe incorporated into the design as a tribute to the WSOP’s return to the newly rebranded Horseshoe Las Vegas.
