TJ Matthews Named IGT Chairman

RENO, Nevada – (PRESS RELEASE) -- IGT today announced that Thomas J. Matthews will succeed G. Thomas Baker, as chairman of International Game Technology, (NYSE: IGT) effective March 1, 2005, at the company's annual shareholder meeting to coincide with Baker's previously announced retirement.

Matthews was named Chief Operating Officer in December 2001 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer In October 2003. He has served on IGT's board of directors since December 2001, when Anchor Gaming was acquired by IGT. He will retain his CEO title in addition to his new title of chairman.

"I'm pleased the board of directors has selected TJ to replace me as chairman," said Baker. "Throughout my career, I've focused on succession planning with the philosophical goal of promoting from within. I feel this appointment is in line with that philosophy and one that will contribute to the ongoing success of the company. TJ has been a great CEO and will be a great chairman."

From February 1994, until its acquisition by IGT in December 2001, Matthews held a number of key positions at Anchor Gaming, including President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. He previously served as President of Global Gaming Distributors, Inc. until Anchor Gaming acquired it in 1994. Matthews graduated with a BS in Finance from the University of Southern California in 1986.
