Top 10 facts and figures for 2019 World Series of Poker Europe

14 October 2019

Yesterday marked the first day of the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe, held at King's Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic, for the third straight year. The tournament will run until 4 November and follows last year’s impressive tournament, which awarded nearly €21 million in prize money. The WSOPE Media Guide brought 10 stats to our attention that players and fans should know as the cards are dealt for the next few weeks. 10. The history Since 2007 when it first debuted, the WSOPE has seen 29,320 entrants competing, with 69 gold bracelets up for grabs. In that time, over $132 million in prize money has been awarded. This year will be the first time the tournament has been held at the same location for three consecutive years since 2007-2010, when it was held in London. With gold bracelets the ultimate goal, players from 25 countries have managed to win one in Europe. The U.S. leads the way, with 14 bracelets. 9. €350 This is amount of the lowest buy-in event in this year’s tournament. Yesterday, flight A of the Opener No-Limit Hold’em event began, with flight B scheduled for today. This event has a €220,700 guaranteed prize pool. The registration will close after 12 levels, with each level 40 minutes long. 8. €250,000 The tournament with largest buy-in amount for the 2019 WSOPE begins Wednesday. The €250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold’em event will see registration close on Thursday and allows players to reenter as many times as they’d like. This event will have a €5 million guaranteed prize pool. This is the only bracelet event that does not count toward WSOP Player of the Year. 7. 200 tables Established in 2003, King’s Casino in Rozvadov has 200 poker tables. Last year, the Czech resort had 160. 6. WSOP Player of the Year The World Series of Poker Player of the Year is still up for grabs, and it’s a tight race. Robert Campbell leads with way with 3,418 points, and Shaun Deeb (3,280 points) and Daniel Negreanu (3,166 points) are right behind him. Negreanu is the only player ever to win the WSOP Player of the Year twice. Deeb won the honor in 2018. All three players will be participating in this year’s WSOPE with the POY honors in their sights. With several chances to gain points in the race over the next four weeks, these players have to bring their best if they want the coveted top spot. 5. The Colossus On 28 October, the €550 Colossus No-Limit Hold’em will begin the first of nine flights. This is one of the most popular events, which drew 2,992 entrants in 2018 and saw a prize pool of just over €1.4 million. The eight-day event is the final event of the 2019 tournament and will have a €1 million guaranteed prize pool. The winner in the Colossus event in 2018 was Tamir Segal, who took home €203,820. 4. 6,028 This is the number of entrants that participated in the 2018 WSOPE. Nearly half of them were from the Colossus event, and 534 played in the Main Event. The 2018 tournament had the second-most total entrants, behind 2017 (7,698), and the second-most entrants in the Main Event, behind 2011 (593). 3. €22,472,450 The number of guaranteed money awarded has increased from last year. This year the guaranteed prize pool is €22,472,450, higher than 2018’s €20,977,184. The 2019 WSOPE Main Event has a guaranteed prize pool of €5 million. 2. The Main Event The seven-day Main Event begins on 25 October with a €10,350 buy-in. With €5 million guaranteed in the tournament, players will be eyeing a large prize to be be awarded to first place. Last year’s winner, Jack Sinclair, took home just over €1.2 million. 1. 15 bracelets The WSOPE has increased the number of WSOP gold bracelet events this year. Last year had 10 bracelet events, but this year, 15 bracelets will be up for grabs. In WSOPE history, there have been 69 official WSOP gold bracelet events entering this year. Since the Super High Roller doesn’t count toward POY, this will give players 14 chances to add to their POY point total.
