U.S. commercial gaming declines less than 1 percent

13 January 2010

NEWTON, Massachusetts -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- The 2009-2010 edition of Casino City's North American Gaming Almanac and CD, released today by Casino City Press, reports that in 2008 gaming revenue in the US declined by 0.92 percent, for a total of $91.58 billion.

The Almanac contains over 600 pages on the Casino City's North American gaming market, including market profiles for each state and Canadian province and nearly 1,000 charts and tables. Property rankings are also included, with top properties listed by type of gaming activity and property, and number of gaming positions, machines, table games, and hotel rooms.

Each gaming market profile includes a market overview, net gaming revenue by type, gaming property counts, machine and table game counts and distribution, gaming property profiles by type and by location, property owner profiles, and regulatory bodies. A chart showing 2008 North American gaming revenue by activity is included for print with this release.

"The North American Gaming Almanac is exceptionally helpful in obtaining a comprehensive view of the ever-changing gaming industry. The way that the data is presented allows such versatility of use that financial analysts, gaming analysts, market research consultants, casino operators, industry suppliers, regulators, libraries, and universities have all found that the Almanac facilitates their endeavors," says Kelley Johnson, Casino City Content Development Specialist. "Uses range from developing benchmarks to analyzing competitors and industry trends."

Key findings in Casino City's North American Gaming Almanac:

Across the U.S. and Canada:

• Casino and card room gaming accounted for 47% of total North American gaming revenue, lotteries for 23%, tribal gaming for 26%, and race and sports wagering for 4%.

• Revenue for tribal gaming and lotteries grew slightly at 1.6% and 0.89% respectively, while all other sectors declined.

• The largest decline of 5.07% was seen in race and sports wagering.

The North American Gaming Almanac CD version includes profiles and statistics for more than 1,500 gaming properties plus nearly 250 annual reports, useful analysis tools, an interactive gaming property map, and other features.

Together with Casino City's Indian Gaming Industry Report by Dr. Alan Meister, the Almanac provides comprehensive coverage of gaming in the North American marketplace.
