Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras Casino plans to reopen 5 June

Wheeling Island Racetrack and Gaming Center and Mardi Gras Casino & Resort in West Virginia announced today that it is targeting a 5 June reopening, per the directive of Governor Jim Justice.

Both casinos are Delaware North properties.

"We look forward to welcoming back our loyal patrons," a message read on the casino's website. "We thank the governor and the state for the thoughtful discussion and planning in response to COVID-19.

"In the weeks prior to suspending operations, we worked to protect public health by following U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines on sanitizing protocols and cleaning throughout our venue.

"Our planning for reopening has been focused on a comprehensive program that features additional ways that we will help keep our guests and employees safe from COVID-19 and provide them peace of mind while they are in our facility. We will offer more information on that program ahead of reopening as we continue to consult with local and state government officials."
