35 years ago, smoking on airplanes was eliminated. While then, the decision was radical, the idea of secondhand smoke on planes is now unconscionable. The same fight is now occurring in casinos. Workers deserve the right to clean air — it's time to pass smokefree legislation.

Last week, VaSenateofVirginia passed a bill to the VaHouseofDelegates that would pave the way for a casino in Tysons Corner. As the bill goes through the legislature, Virginia lawmakers must specify that casinos built in the state will be 100% smokefree. Read more here: nbcwashington.com/news/local/nor…

Tomorrow, lawmakers will attend a NCLGS meeting in New Orleans just before the 10-year anniversary of the city’s smokefree law. While opposed by casinos in 2015, the policy brought the city economic success and kept workers safe. It's time to pass smokefree laws everywhere else.
